won the Queer Lion Award 2008, organised by the CinemArte Association and presented to the best film with a homosexual theme. The jury – presided by director Tinto Brass – included journalist Massimo Benvegnù and film critic Boyd van Hoeij.

The Future Film Festival Digital Award 2008 for the film which makes the most impressive use of animation and/or special effects went to Mamoru Oshii’s The Sky Crawlers (Japan).

The Cinema for UNICEF Award – presented by the young 2008 Agiscuola Golden Lion Cub jury to the film which “most effectively communicates the values and ideals of UNICEF, giving a voice and face to children’s rights” – went to Haile Gerima’s Teza [+see also:
