Czechs above the arctic circle

The Czech Republic is in the limelight at the Tromsö International Film Festival (Jan 13-18). More than a dozen Czech films are screening at the festival, and the Czech Film Center is organising an extensive presentation in cooperation with the National Film Archive and with the Czech Embassy in Oslo.

Helena Trestikova's EFA Prix Arte-winning documentary René will compete with nine other films for the Aurora grand prize, €10,000 towards distribution in Norway.

Four Czech films will screen in the Horizons section A Country Teacher [+see also:

and Night Owls.

The Czech National Film Archive is presenting a retrospective of seven Czech classics from the 1960s, including Ivan Passer's Intimate Lighting and Milos Forman's Loves of a Blonde.

Other Czech titles screening in Tromsø include Who Wants to Kill Jessie? and animated films Little Mole and Pat & Mat.

The presentation in Norway is the Czech Film Center's first during the Czech Presidency of the European Union.
