continued their dream awards season picking up Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Supporting Role and Outstanding Cast In A Motion Picture respectively at the annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Winslet said, “It is really an honour to be included in such a remarkable year and be acknowledged by my peers in this way. I really feel like everybody should be given a medal - I believe this to be true. I’m a little bit lost for words, I’m sorry.”

Meanwhile Slumdog producer Christian Colson won The Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures at the annual Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards, taking the film closer to hopes of Oscar glory. The PGAs also honoured Man on Wire [+see also:

producer Simon Chinn with the Producers Guild of America Producer of the Year Award in Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures.

Man on Wire also picked up the World Cinema Jury Prize: Documentary and the World Cinema Audience Award: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. Irish drama Five Minutes of Heaven [+see also:

won directing and screenwriting awards at the festival while British film An Education [+see also:

, directed by Lone Scherfig and starring Carey Mulligan (see Shooting Star interview), won World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic in addition to a cinematography prize.

Scherfig said, “You make films because you want them to be seen by someone. You want to show somebody something, or share something with somebody, make other people laugh at the same things that you do. That’s the point.”
