Children’s films in spotlight

Belgian distributors certainly intend to make the most of the school holiday period. US films are doing well after last week’s release of Bolt, but European works are not to be outdone, with an impressive selection of titles hitting screens. These include an animated film, two children’s films and a movie for teenagers.

Young Flemish viewers will have the chance to discover Jannik Hastrup’s Danish production A Tale of Two Mozzies, with its teasing and music-loving insects; and Hungarian director Gabor Csupo’s The Secret of Moonacre [+see also:

. Co-produced by Hungary’s Eurofilm Studio, the UK’s LWH Films and France’s Davis Films, the latter title is being launched on 16 screens by Kinepolis.

Meanwhile, young Francophone Belgian audiences will recognise the voices of Dany Boon and Yolande Moreau in Jacques-Rémy Girerd’s animated ecological tale Mia and the Migoo [+see also:

. Produced by Folimage Productions for €8.4m, Mia will try to repeat the success of Girerd’s Raining Cats and Frogs (2003). The film is being released by BFD on four screens in Brussels and Wallonia.

, is this week’s local release. Full of the unspoken, this understated work centres on the disappearance of a child.

Starring alongside Bruno Todeschini, Emmanuelle Devos picked up Best Actress at the Turin Film Festival for her intense performance. Produced by Prime Time and Versus Production, Unspoken is being released by Cinéart on four screens.
