REVIEWS France

A Look at Portugal

- Cinémathèque to host a review of Portuguese cinema that includes films in or about the Tres-os-Montes region

The French Film Library is holding a review of the work of two Portuguese directors, Margarida Cordeiro and Antonio Reis, that alsoo includes several films and documentaries featuring the Tras-os-Montes region of Portugal, a natural location that has inspired Portuguese and international filmmakers.
This important event is the result of a meeting that took place three years ago between the honorary president of the French Film Library, Jean Rouch, and Portuguese film director, Ricardo Costa.
Rouch has made a huge contribution to creating awareness of Lusitanian films in France, especially the work of veteran cineaste Manoel de Oliveira and filmmaking duo Cordeiro-Casal. The organisers also selected films by Manoel de Oliveira, Antonio Campos, João César Monteiro, Manuel Costa e Silva, Fernando Matos Silva, Leonel de Brito, Fernando Lopes e Ricardo Costa.
The event has the backing of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Institut Camões of Paris and will take place from 9 to 20 October 2002.
