by

The programme includes Caroline Link’s Nirgendwo in Afrika, winner of five German Film Awards, The Longing by Iain Dilthey, winner of the 55th Locarno Film Festival and Grill Point by Andreas Dresen, winner of the Silver Bear at the 52nd Berlin Film Festival as well as a “Silver Lola” at this year’s German Film Awards. Baader, Christopher Roth’s film about the founder of the Baader-Meinhoff terrorist gang, a blend of archive material, historical reconstruction and fiction, will also be screened. When Baader was screened at the last Berlinale, it created a wave of controversy and won the Alfred Bauer Award for “innovation”.
The German Film Festival will pay tribute to the following contemporary artists, Carlo Rola, Dani Levy, Christian Petzold, Peter Sehr, Michael Hofmann and Ben Verbong as well as a three-film homage to Marlene Dietrich with von Sternberg’s The Blue Angel, Fritz Lang’s Rancho Notorius and Billy Wilder’s A Foreign Affair. The festival will also commemorate actress Hildegarde Knef by screening five of her features. The event also includes a dedicated space which will showcase nine shorts by as many German film school students and Franco-German TV channel, ARTE, will celebrate its 10th anniversary by screening seven of its co-productions.
