Antonioni turns 90

by

- Italy's master filmmaker celebrated this landmark event in a cinema packed with friends and acquaintances gathered to see the restored print of "L'Avventura"

He may be 90 years old, but Michelangelo Antonioni refuses to bow his head to Time and carries on making films. He just finished directing the first episode of a trilogy about eroticism that is based on his 1955 book of short stories entitled “Quel bowling sul Tevere”.
Antonioni and his wife and faithful companion, Enrica Fico, arrived at Rome’s Embassy Cinema on the evening of 29 September together with the mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni. The event was a gala screening of his classic, L'avventura that has been lovingly restored by the National Film School and funded by Mediaset. Antonioni is a living legend and filmmaking icon and his entrance was greeted with a long and heartfelt round of applause from the audience that included numerous friends and colleagues of Antonioni’s like Carlo Lizzani, Gillo Pontecorvo and Francesco Rosi.
