Following its European success, 8 women by François Ozon is winning over the American market too. According to Unifrance, the film has already grossed over Dollars1.2million (Euros 1.2million) in less than three weeks. This is an excellent result given that 8 Women was first released onto just 3 screens in New York and Los Angeles, but gradually mushroomed first to 57 and now 82 US screens.
There can be no doubt that the promotional tour undertaken by François Ozon and one of his leading ladies, Catherine Deneuve, also helped. They first visited the Toronto Film Festival , stopped over in New York and then continued on a whistle-stop tour of America’s key cities.
