No less than seven Nordic feature films and documentaries will travel to the Tribeca Film Festival (April 22-May 3), co-founded by Robert de Niro, including Norwegian title North [+see also:

Denstad’s feature debut, which won the Europa Cinemas Label in Berlin, is competing in Tribeca’s main World Narrative Feature section for Best Film and Best Newcomer, which Sweden’s Let the Right One In [+see also:

In the Discovery section, Sweden is represented this year by the synchronised swimming comedy The Swimsuit Issue [+see also:

film profile], directed by Måns Herngren, and the Coen-esque comedy Original [+see also:

film profile], co-directed by up-and-coming Scandinavian duo Antonio Tublén from Sweden and Alexander Brøndsted from Denmark. Starring Tuva Novotny and David Dencik, the film tells of a burdened young man struggling to break free from everyone’s expectations. Carsten Holst is producing for Zentropa.

In the Midnight section, the Russian/Swedish co-production Newsmakers, directed by Anders Banke (Frostbite [+see also:
trailer
film profile]) for Sweden’s Illusion Film, will have its world premiere. The action film based on a script by Sam Klebanov and Aleksandr Lungin (son of Pavel Lungin) is a remake of Johnnie To’s 2004 Breaking News.

Kristian Levring’s Danish thriller Fear Me Not will screen in the sidebar Spotlight, dedicated to films acquired for US distribution but not yet released.

Lastly, two documentaries will unspool in the World Documentary Features section: the Norwegian/Polish film Yodok Stories, directed by Andrzej Fidyk for Piraya Film; and Defamation, a Danish/Austrian/Israeli film by Yoav Shamir, which screened in the 2008 Berlinale Forum.
