Last year, Denmark’s Egmont Media Group, the market leader in the Nordic region with 6,600 employees in 30 countries, racked up its so-far highest revenue, totalling €1.6 billion – up 5.2% on 2014 – and its bottom-line result of €102 million is the second-highest to date. “The key ingredients are strong media content, digital growth and new media channels with more direct consumer contact,” explained Steffen Kragh, president and CEO of Egmont, who added that his concern is now to focus on acquisition and investment.

In the annual report, the owner of Danish major Nordisk Film and Norway’s commercial broadcaster TV2 credited all of the group’s business divisions for the achievement: Nordisk Film delivered record-high revenue and a strong result, Egmont Publishing increased earnings and generated growth, Egmont Books expanded, and TV2 strengthened its position.

was nominated for an Oscar, and several other films received prestigious Danish and international awards. Both in Denmark and Norway, people flocked to the cinemas, which sold a record number of 9.8 million tickets. PlayStation 4 did excellent business, and the cinema clubs saw a significant rise in their memberships.

Norway’s TV2 registered an all-time-high revenue in 2015 measured in local currency, and the station achieved very strong digital development thanks to its streaming service Sumo and tv2.no. TV2 further strengthened its premium business notably with the acquisition of the C More TV and streaming business in Norway. “Overall, TV2 is today Norway’s largest commercial media house,” the president and CEO added.

“Egmont’s strength is media content and technology. We meet the modern consumer on all platforms with journalism, literature, sports, entertainment and unique experiences, as we move from local to global competition,” Kragh concluded. Last year, the media group made donations of €12 million towards projects that support vulnerable children and young people – as well as film talents, through the Nordisk Film Fund.
