The film, written by Genovesi with Giovanni Bognetti, tells the story of Antonio (Caccamo), who has finally found the love of his life, Paolo (Esposito), with whom he leads a happy life in Berlin. Antonio asks Paolo to marry him, but before they tie the knot they will have to confront their two families. So they decide to travel to Italy together, destination: Civita di Bagnoregio, the home town of Antonio's parents Anna (Guerritore) and Roberto (Abatantuono), a progressive town mayor. The two lovers are joined on their extraordinary journey by their slightly odd friend Benedetta (Del Bufalo) and new roommate Donato (Abbrescia). Anna immediately accepts her son's intentions to marry Paolo, provided that certain conditions are met: the future mother-in-law must attend the wedding, the whole town must be invited, Enzo Miccio, wedding planner par excellence, must organise the event, and the couple will have to be united in marriage by her husband, sporting a tricolour sash. Will Paolo's mother, Vincenza (D'Urso), attend the wedding? And most importantly, will Roberto support his son's decision?
