The film tells the story of two very different brothers who have not seen each other for 20 years: city manager Christian (Eidinger) and cabinetmaker Georg (Mädel), who never left their hometown and took care of their father until his passing.  When their father dies and Christian returns, after all this time, for the funeral, the alcohol helping, the brothers decide on a whim to hop on mopeds and fulfil an old dream: travelling through Germany together on two wheels. This journey will offer them a series of incredible adventures and encounters, as well as the opportunity to rediscover themselves.

Filming on 25 km/h took place from 1August to 20 September in several regions, naturally corresponding to the regional funding received in Germany: the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg fund (€300,000), the FFF Bayern fund (€250,000), the North Rhine-Westphalia NRW fund (€100,000), the Schleswig-Holstein Hamburg fund (€225 000), and the Baden-Württemberg fund (€100 000) coming from the regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein and the Berlin-Brandenburg. 25 km/h has also been supported at a national level by the Federal DFFF Fund (€829,280) and the FFA (€494,000). Sony Pictures Germany will be distributing the film on German screens on 1 November 2018.
