Swedish actor Dragomir “Gago” Mrsic will not only star in Alex, the new thriller series that leading Nordic streaming service Viaplay has commissioned Swedish major SF Studios to produce, but he also came up with the idea for it, along with Swedish producer Mikael Cross

Part of Sweden’s MTG, Viaplay has since last year been increasing its focus on original content through Viaplay Original. Alex – featuring six episodes delivered by Swedish screenwriters Niklas Rockström (Before We Die) and Michael Hjorth (Sebastian Bergman) – will shoot in Gothenburg as a co-production with Swedish regional film centre Film Väst. It will be premiered next spring in all Nordic countries.

trilogy (2010-2012) and is currently filming Titus Paar’s horror story Legend of Dark Rider, stars as ruthless and corrupt police officer Alex, who has decided to clean himself up and stick to the straight and narrow. But his criminal partners refuse to let him off the hook, and so his and his family’s lives are in danger. At the same time, his new partner, Frida (Rakel Wärmländer), has secretly been instructed to bring him down.

“It is wonderful to make a tough thriller that dares to go further than what we usually get to see, and which dares to show the raw reality of the criminal underworld. It takes place in a brutal world that I have seen at first hand, and which we get to experience in uncompromising fashion,” Mrsic said. “It is a project we have worked on for a long time, so it feels incredibly inspiring to realise it,” added producer Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (who was Oscar-nominated for A Man Called Ove [+lire aussi :

“The drama-thriller is Viaplay’s most popular genre, and Alex is another effort to increase our offer,” explained Viaplay CEO Jonas Karlén, who – after Occupied 2, the second series in the Viaplay Original catalogue – has commissioned Swedish projects such as Hassel, starring Ola Rapace as the legendary detective, the PI comedy Swedish Dicks and the Nordic noir thriller Black Lake for the autumn programme.
