Filming has commenced in Seville on a new TV series, produced by Mediaset and Mediaset España – working together for the first time – and in collaboration with Cross Production. Lontano da te (lit. Away from You) is a seven-part romantic comedy TV series, starring Alessandro Tiberi (the intern in the cult TV series Fox Boris and also seen recently in the Rai fiction drama, Tutto può succedere) and Megan Montaner (star of the soap opera El secreto de Puente Viejo). Directing the series will be Ivan Silvestrini (director, among others, of the films Monolith [+lire aussi :

, and the Rai mini-series Io tra 20 anni). The Italian-Spanish cast also stars Pamela Villoresi, Rosario Pardo and Pepon Nieto.

Lontano da te tells the story of modern love with a hint of fantasy. Candela (Montaner) is a Spanish flamenco dancer, unruly and goofy, whereas Massimo (Tiberi) is a young, super-organised businessman from Rome. Two diametrically-opposed characters whose lives will be changed by a sort of spell: while living in different countries, one will materialise in the life of the other in some very surprising and ill-timed circumstances, without a rational explanation. A dream, perhaps? Magic? Madness?

The series, due to be filmed in Seville, Rome and Prague, will be broadcast simultaneously on Canale 5 in Italy and Telecinco in Spain between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. Discussions for distribution in major European territories and in Spanish-speaking international areas are underway. "It's a product with dreamlike fantasy elements that lends itself to openings in other markets, too", said the director of Mediaset fiction, Daniele Cesarano, in a recent interview with the Corriere della Sera. "Irony is nurtured by the interaction between two opposing characters, who in some ways embody certain stereotypes that the audiences may recognise in themselves. But those stereotypes are also reversed. It’s a sort of narrative reversal, a comedy classic which will no doubt surprise the audience."
