Solo exhibits from three filmmakers – Barbara Albert (Austria), Stéphane Brizé (France) and Adrian Sitaru (Romania) –who have all portrayed the soul of Europe in various lights over recent years will be characterising the Europe, Now! Section of the 36th edition of Bergamo Film Meeting, which is due to take place in Bergamo from 10 to 18 March 2018. The festival’s official opening night is due to take place on Friday, 9 March at 9pm at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, where a screening of The Last Laugh (1924) by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau will be accompanied by a live organ performance by the maestro Gerardo Chimini.

Other festival highlights include the Italian premiere of seven feature films in the Mostra Concorso section, 15 documentaries in the Visti da Vicino competition, a retrospective dedicated to the Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann – who will be attending the festival accompanied by a Liv & Ingmar photographic exhibition – a section dedicated to contemporary art with a tribute to Jonas Mekas, a focus dedicated to Czechoslovak director Nová Vlna, an exhibition of diploma films from CILECT European film schools, a discussion on animated cinema with the Slovenian director Špela Čadež, and a discussion with four of the best emerging Italian illustrators, Fabio Tonetto, Vittoria Moretta, Vincenzo Filosa and Mabel Morri, as well as master classes, laboratories and more.
