The 28^th edition of the big international market for linear and interactive documentaries, Sunny Side of the Doc, came to a close yesterday (Thursday 22 June) in La Rochelle. It was an edition characterised by the theme of History, where factual programme professionals were treated to some highly enriching conferences on the future of the profession and obtaining and using archive material, and could learn how to use new digital tools thanks to Sunny Lab and PiXii (Paths of Interaction, eXperiences in Immersion & Innovation). The event concluded with the announcement of the 13 winners from among the 50 projects pitched (in seven thematic sessions held over four days of intensive work).

It was a Spanish project, of a historical nature quite fittingly – The Rise and Fall of Bhutto (presented by Bew Corp) –, on the fate of former Pakistani Head of State Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, that stood out the most, bagging no fewer than four prizes: the Prize for Best Historical Project, the Group AB Prize, the AP Archive Prize, and the Cezame Music Award.

"We’re beating all our previous records", general coordinator Josée Brossard told us. Indeed, from 19 to 22 June, the Espace Encan in La Rochelle ushered in over 2100 accredited professionals from 60 countries, including 350 international buyers and over 500 companies exhibiting on 113 stands. The next edition of Sunny Side of the Doc will take place from 25 to 28 June 2018.
