For the first time ever, the Cannes Film Market, which will take place from 8-17 May, will host a large number of Basque companies at the ICEX stand in Riviera #A5. This comes as a result of Zineuskadi's collaboration with the Instituto Etxepare and Eiken Cluster.

A catalogue of 43 film projects will be distributed in this space, which will be located in the Cinema from Spain area. Of these 43 projects, 18 are in development, 13 are at the production stage and 12 have been completed and/or screened in 2017. The publication encompasses work by a total of 28 companies: Adabaki Ekoizpenak, Amania Films, Area Audiovisual, Arena Comunicación, Arquetipo Comunicación, Atera Films, Baleuko, Basque Films, Barton Films, Blogmedia, Demeter Films, Dibulitoon Studio, Doxa Producciones, Einarte Produkzioak, Euskadi Movie AIE, Frágil Zinema, Izar Films, Kanaki Films, Komiki Films, Kubelik Films, Lamia Producciones, Laniakea, Pimpi&Nella Films, Sr&Sra Producciones, Talka Films, Taui Media, Txintxua Films and Zazpi t’erdi. Nine of these companies will be present at the Cannes Film Market. The works that are represented include 19 documentaries and 25 full-length feature films.

One of the most notable projects is Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow's Another Day of Life [+leggi anche:

, a film by the Donostian production company Kanaki Films (Amaia Remirez), which was selected for a world premiere by the Cannes Film Festival within its Official Selection, forming part of the Special Screenings. Another Day of Life is a feature-length film which blends animation with comic-book aesthetics and real images to portray the experiences of writer and war reporter Ryszard Kapuscinski during his time in Angola. The film, which is based on the book of the same name, is a co-production between Kanaki Films (Spain), Platige Image (Poland), Walking the Dog (Belgium), Animationsfabrik and Wüste Film (Germany), and Puppetworks (Hungary). 

In addition to this, production company Txintxua Films will participate in one of the events organised by BS2B0 (Best Seller to Box Office) with its Karmele project, an adaptation of the novel Elkarrekin esnatzeko ordua by Kirmen Uribe. Asier Altuna and Marian Fernández will be in attendance to present their pitch to potential international co-producers.

Finally, Bilbao-born director Arantxa Echevarría will present her first feature-length film, Carmen y Lola [+leggi anche:

, as part of the Directors’ Fortnight. Her movie is a love story between two gypsy teenagers who fight to continue their relationship in the face of social discrimination.
