scheda film], in corsa nella categoria miglior film insieme ai titoli già citati, ha ricevuto tre nomination, come la commedia Kinky Boots, per la quale Julian Jarrold ha ricevuto la nomination come miglior nuovo regista. Jarrold dovrà competere con Annie Griffith nominata nella stessa categoria per Festival, con Laurence Dunmore per The Libertine, con Gaby Dellal per On a Clear Day e con Richard E Grant per Wah-Wah. La giuria di questa ottava edizione dei BIFA Awards è presieduta dal produttore Michael Kuhn, ed è composta da Bryce Dallas Howard, Anne Reid e Amanda Donohoe, dal montatore Mick Audsley, dal regista svedese Mikael Håftröm, dall'agente Sue Latimer, dal produttore Uberto Pasolini, dal regista Hugh Hudson e dall'attore Ashley Walters.
Nell'annunciare le nomination ufficiali, il fondatore dei BIFA e del Raindance Film Festival, Elliott Grove ha dichiarato: "Il 2005 è quasi finito ed ha portato con sé gli abituali reportage televisivi e giornalistici sulla morte del cinema indipendente inglese. Dove sta la verità? Ci piace pensare che si trovi nelle nomination dei British Independent Film Awards di quest'anno. Se si scorre la lista delle nomination si vedrà che i titoli spaziano attraverso tutti i generi, dai classici film drammatici, alle commedie, ai thriller romantici e politici. Da ogni punto di vista, questo può essere considerato un anno piuttosto buono per il cinema inglese".
