Presentation and Philosophy:

Born in Turin in 1994, ready to set a new course of studies using innovative methods, aims and content, Scuola Holden is a Storytelling school. A unique place, where narrative techniques are taught. The name of the school comes from young Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye: the boy who didn’t want to know anything about schools, colleges, teachers, subjects and exams. Well, he would have liked this school.

In its 20 years of life, Scuola Holden has expanded and specialized: whoever feels the urge to tell a story, here can learn to tell it with different languages and tools.

But Scuola Holden is also a lot more, a cultural production centre: events, meetings, projects. An open place where ideas are born and thrive.

Number of students/ full-time/ part-time workshops:

Scuola Holden's total number of students used be 30 per year; thanks to its new location, Caserma Cavalli, a charming building right in the heart of the old Turin, Scuola Holden has increased student capacity to 400 per year.

Number of students in film/animation studies: maximum 30 students

Number of international students:

The school has just now opened its doors to international students this year.

Degree category/length of studies:

Two year program in storytelling & performing arts. Scuola Holden does not grant a university diploma.

Programme objective and content:

SH offers a unique environment to those individuals who want to take a step forward and to qualify themselves in the fields of Storytelling and Performing Arts. The School gives the tangible opportunity to study for two short however intense years, but it also directly links students towards each respected business industry they aim to work with.

Scuola Holden offers 6 major fields of expertise specifically devoted to:

  • Crossmedia

The average median age student is 23; they all come from a variety of cultures and educational backgrounds. Main achievement of the school is to teach learners how to become professional writers, novelists, reporters, creators of advertising campaigns, actors and ultimately movie directors.

Admission and entry requirements:

The application form will be online for two months starting from April 2nd. Applicants are asked to tell a story by all possible means: written stories, videos, etc. Applicants must also undertake a multiple choice test in English. Admission is notified on July 15.
