Is a director an artist or a technician?
Hungarian director Kornel Mundruzco believes that you are an artist when working on the script, while the shooting requires more technical abilities. Shooting “is a technical sport as the Formula1: you need a good pilot and a good car, and most important the support of a creative crew”.
For his latest film Delta, the director was inspired by the Danube Delta, which impressed him after his first visit, deciding to make it the location for the film and the basis for the story.
As he explains, many of his films are centred on human beings. He prefers to produce films about humanity, creating small microcosms where the family fits perfectly in the frame.
About Hungarian cinema he says that it has produced quality films. He considers himself a Hungarian filmmaker and is proud of his identity. He says that Hungary was the biggest filmmaking country, with a large production of silent films. A tradition that continued in the years, running through the Communist time, with important directors such as Jancso. A big tradition marked by typical silent long shots for sad movies.
