Shooting Locations Marketplace, the market intended for professionals specialising in film and TV shoots, will hold its sixth edition on 14 and 15 October at the Feria de Valladolid (Valladolid Trade Fair), bringing together technicians and experts from 27 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The event is organised by the Feria de Valladolid and Spain Film Commission, with the collaboration of Valladolid City Council and the Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Government of Castile and León.

It hinges on a programme of more than 1,500 one-to-one meetings involving territories, film commissions, film offices, studios and ancillary service providers, plus location scouts and production companies that are deciding where their future projects will be shot. New this year is the addition of territories such as Turkey, Stockholm, Rome-Lazio, the Veneto region, Uruguay, Peru, Mallorca, Calvià, Teruel and Ávila, as well as studios and ancillary service companies from Spain and Morocco, alongside a strong presence of Portuguese destinations.

As for this new edition’s content, its conferences and round-tables will tackle issues such as the new European audiovisual strategy, an analysis of the tax incentives applied in different parts of the world, and how geopolitics or climate crises force productions to seek alternatives to a shooting plan. “Objective: Find the Next Location” is the title of these sessions, which will discuss how adaptability becomes a strategic element when positioning oneself as a filming destination, and the need to offer viable alternatives to ensure project continuity and, of course, to meet creative, technical and logistical needs.

During the presentation of this edition, held yesterday in the Castilian city, the general manager of Feria de Valladolid, Alberto Alonso, noted, “Shooting Locations Marketplace is a project that is recognised and valued by professionals in the sector; it has a strong track record and a promising future because it delivers for its participants. [...] Turning Shooting Locations Marketplace into a touchstone for the sector helps develop our audiovisual ecosystem and position us as a filming destination,” he added.

For his part, the president of Spain Film Commission, Juan Manuel Guimeráns, stated: “This initiative was born with the aim of creating a useful workspace for those who decide where projects are shot and for the territories that want to attract them. [...] Six editions later, its growth and international scope confirm that, together with the Feria de Valladolid, we have built an increasingly relevant tool for the industry,” he continued.

The director-general for Tourism, Ignacio Sicilia, welcomed “the Regional Government’s involvement in Shooting Locations Marketplace through the Castilla y León Film Commission, whose mission is to promote the region as a filming destination, and to support companies and professionals in the sector, since the government is aware of the importance of promoting our region in order to attract production companies from anywhere in the world”.

Lastly, councillor for Tourism, Events and City Brand Blanca Jiménez underlined how “Valladolid is reaping the rewards of the work carried out in recent years to boost audiovisual activity and encourage the arrival of new productions; improvements to infrastructure, support for local talent and sector-related initiatives are enabling the city to host high-profile productions”.
