has closed theatrical distribution agreements in five new countries, in addition to the three territories where the picture has already been landing in cinemas.

After premiering in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in February, Nelly & Nadine was selected for over 40 international film festivals and won eight international prizes, including the prestigious Teddy Award. The picture tells an unlikely love story: two women fell in love on Christmas Eve, 1944, in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Now, Nelly’s grandchild, Sylvie, has decided to open Nelly and Nadine’s unseen personal archives, and lift the lid on their remarkable story.

The fresh sales deals, closed by Berlin-based Rise and Shine World Sales, will see Gertten’s effort hitting cinemas via Dalton Distribution in Belgium, Polyfilm in Austria, Rise and Shine Cinema in Germany, Tel Aviv Cinematheque in Israel and Filmbazaar in Denmark. In its home territory, Sweden, it is being handled by Doc Lounge, and as reported just before the North American premiere at Hot Docs earlier this spring, Wolfe is distributing it in Canada and the USA.

Dalton Distribution is set to premiere the film in Belgium on 5 October. Meanwhile, Filmbazaar is expected to premiere it in Denmark on 20 October, whilst Rise and Shine Cinema will release it on 24 November in Germany. More premiere dates will be confirmed soon.

Commenting on the new deals, Ove Rishøj Jensen, producer at Auto Images, told Cineuropa: “It’s great to see that Nelly & Nadine is now reaching audiences in cinemas across Europe and North America. In this way, the amazing life story of Nelly and Nadine becomes the big-screen experience that the whole team behind the film has envisioned from the very beginning.”

Nelly & Nadine was produced by Sweden’s Auto Images, Belgium’s Associate Directors, Norway’s UpNorth Film, Swedish pubcaster SVT, Belgian pubcaster RTBF and Sweden’s Film i Skåne, with backing from the Swedish Film Institute, the VAF Fund, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Nordisk Film & TV Fond and the European Union’s Creative Europe – MEDIA programme.
