National Film Centre supports 17 features

The Romanian National Film Centre announced the grants for 2013, with nine live action features, four documentaries and four animations among the winners. The biggest grants (€225,000) went to Nae Caranfil’s (photo) 6.9 on the Richter Scale, produced by Cristian Mungiu’s Mobra Film, and Nicolae Margineanu’s The White Gate, produced by Ager Film.

Radu Muntean’s new project One Floor Below, written together with his longtime collaborators Alexandru Baciu and Razvan Radulescu, received €207,000, while Radu Jude’s period drama Aferim!, produced by Ada Solomon and HiFilm, was granted €185,000. Roots, directed by Stere Gulea and produced by Cristi and Anca Puiu’s Mandragora, received €180,000. Marian Crisan will produce his Horizon a.k.a. The Forest with Mandragora Movies (owned by Bobby Paunescu), starting with a grant of €140,000. Adrian Sitaru’s Fixeur, produced by 4Proof Film, received €65,000.

Only two first films are supported by the Romanian CNC: Adina Pintilie’s Touch Me Not, produced 4Proof Film, received €160,000, while High Schoolers 2000, produced by MediaPro Pictures and directed by Ana Cristina Iacob, received €180,000.

Documentary The Magic Mountain, produced by Aparte Film and directed by Anca Damian, received the biggest grant in the Documentary section, €95,000. Ioan Cristian Piturescu’s About Self and the Other and Dan Necsulea’s One Century without the Treasury were granted €80,000. Dumitru Budrala’s The King’s Path received €55,000.

Four animation projects were granted amounts between €34,000 and €90,000.
