Gran Canaria has further consolidated its position as one of southern Europe’s leading audiovisual production hubs, generating an economic impact of more than €110 million in 2025 and creating over 5,200 jobs, according to the 2025 Audiovisual Production Overview presented by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and prepared by the Economic Promotion Agency of Gran Canaria (SPEGC).

The figures point to sustained growth across production volume, investment, employment and format diversification. Throughout 2025, the island hosted 171 audiovisual productions, up from 147 the previous year, confirming a steady upward trajectory driven by the continued confidence of both national and international producers.

Production activity in 2025 included 30 fiction features, ten series and 18 animated projects, alongside documentaries, post-production and VFX work, as well as more than 70 advertising productions. This broad slate underlines Gran Canaria’s capacity to accommodate projects of varying scales and formats.

In total, productions accounted for over 4,100 shooting days and more than 4,400 direct hires, with overall investment exceeding €110 million. The activity also generated a significant knock-on effect for other sectors, including accommodation, catering, transport and local technical services.

A comparison with 2024 highlights a consolidated growth trend, rather than a one-off surge. Investment rose from just over €90 million in 2024 to above €110 million in 2025, reinforcing the perception of a stable and mature audiovisual ecosystem on the island.

Filming took place across almost all municipalities in Gran Canaria, broadening the territorial distribution of economic benefits and showcasing the island’s landscape diversity as a natural filming location. In parallel, Gran Canaria Platós recorded 23 weeks of occupancy in 2025, combining physical studio shoots with virtual production, further strengthening the island’s competitiveness relative to other production territories.

During the year, SPEGC intensified initiatives aimed at reinforcing the destination’s audiovisual competitiveness. These included 26 specialised training programmes attended by around 650 professionals, as well as continued production support and promotion through the Gran Canaria Film Commission.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has reiterated its commitment to the audiovisual sector as a key pillar of the island’s economic diversification strategy, highlighting its role as a generator of employment and a driver of Gran Canaria’s international visibility.
