Spain’s Impulse Cinema and Italy’s Fandango have struck a strategic partnership designed to expand their activities in international co-production and sales, Variety was first to report. The agreement brings together two companies operating in complementary areas of the European independent-film landscape and is intended to generate new opportunities for projects moving between the Spanish and Italian industries.

Under the partnership, the two outfits will explore opportunities to collaborate on productions while leveraging their respective networks and expertise to bolster the international positioning and circulation of films. The move comes at a time when cross-border financing and co-production structures are playing an increasingly central role in European independent filmmaking.

For Fandango, the agreement further develops a long-standing international approach encompassing production, distribution and world sales. Founded by Domenico Procacci, the Rome-based company has built up a catalogue that includes titles by filmmakers such as Matteo Garrone, Paolo Sorrentino, Nanni Moretti and Francesca Archibugi, whilst its boutique sales arm, Fandango, represents both in-house productions and third-party titles internationally.

Fandango is particularly visible at this year’s Venice Film Festival. It is among the producers of Nanni Moretti’s It Will Happen Tonight, an Italian-French-Spanish co-production starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, and is lead producer and world sales agent on Marco Bechis’ Back to Buenos Aires, both of which are vying for the Golden Lion.

The tie-up with Impulse Cinema therefore adds another direct bridge to Spain for the Italian company, with the partners seeking to translate their respective production and market relationships into a broader pipeline of European collaborations. For Impulse Cinema, meanwhile, the alliance provides access to Fandango’s established production, distribution and sales infrastructure in Italy and on the international arthouse circuit.
