SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT
by Detlev Buck
synopsis
Benjamin, a young German, decides to set off to discover Asia with his best friend. In Phnom Penh he meets Sreykeo, a Cambodian with whom he immediately falls in love. After their first night together, Benjamin learns that the young woman works as a bar hostess to help her family and she is HIV positive, but this revelation in no way detracts from the pleasure he takes in spending time with her and discovering this exotic country. Thanks to Seiko, Benjamin’s view of the world gradually begins to change. Back in Germany, he realises that this relationship means far more to him than a simple holiday romance and, to general astonishment, decides to fight come what may to make it a long-term reality.
