Gassen is a village of mountain farmers situated 1,600 metres high in the Hohe Tauern region of East Tyrol. In 1965, the formerly flourishing hamlet abruptly became a ghost village when a landslide destroyed two houses and killed six people. Just at the turn of the millennium, the long sleep begins to end as new generation grows up and the fear of another landslide is overcome.
