During holidays on the North Sea coast, Dole meets Hermann and they become very close friends. But this is no ordinary friendship. Dole is eleven years old and Hermann is more than thirty years her senior, married, with children. Back home, both live near Mannheim, they see each other quite often. One day though, Dole's mother decides to move to France, but Dole decides to move at Hermann's and run away together. Pursued by Dole's mother and Hermann's family.
