SUICIDE ROOM
by Jan Komasa
synopsis
Dominik, a high school student, is humiliated by his colleagues one too many times; he stops going to school and shuts himself in the virtual world. There he meets a girl who has attempted suicide. She brings him into the “suiciders room” - an online place for people who, like Dominik, no longer want to live, or at least give off that impression. An attempt at portraying hikikomori - a sociological phenomenon often described as Internet addiction. The addict locks himself away from the world, enters his “hermitage”. These neohermits of the 21st century can spend anything from a few months to a few years, locked in a room, needing nothing but a computer with an Internet connection.
