synopsis
A film adaptation of the famous gothic novel by Matthew G. Lewis published in 1796, depicting the tragic destiny of Brother Ambrosio in 18th Century Catholic Spain. Abandoned at birth at the door of a monastery, Ambrosio is raised by the friars, going on to become an admired preacher known for his fervour and feared for his intransigence, believing himself to be protected and free of all temptation. However, the sudden arrival of a misterious novice will stir all his convictions and usher him onto the road of perdition.
