Alvar builds landscapes for model trains and does so with a lot of love. His passion for model making was started by his wife who he has lost under unexplained circumstances. Day after day Alvar works on his little figurines, films them with a digital camera and seems to feel safe and satisfied in his universe of false dreams. Once in a while he has a visitor, Miriam, who is an unsatisfied teenager from his neighbourhood who shares his passion for model trains. The whole occupation with the model trains is, in all actuality, a grieving process and a way for the protagonist to get over the death of his wife. The old man and the young girl must face facts and admit to their true feelings while the model world becomes the real one.
