CAIRO-AREHEBAT

by Abdullah Al-Ghaly

synopsis

The documentary tells a tale through the narration of a director’s personal story about identity and belonging. It is a story that could have been stopped from developing, had two revolutions not waged in two countries that the filmmaker has heritage in and had the filmmaker not been directly affected by the violent events that had taken place in Egypt and Libya. The director who is an animation artist escapes to memories from his childhood to try to put together his family’s strange history. It is an honest tale often suffered by those who cannot fully grasp their identities as they try to understand the concepts of nation and homeland. These types of people live their entire lives with inner struggles no matter how hard they try to get rid of them. The film is about alienation, homeland, and about the directors relationship with his family.
