CORN ISLAND
synopsis
70-year-old Abga and his teenage granddaughter Asida cultivate the ground of a small island that got temporarly produced by the Enguri River. The river marks the border between the independent Rebulic of Abkhazia and Georgia and has always been the symbol of ceasefire. The island, made out of washed up dirt, rocks and debris, might exist for years or might be swept away soon. The farmers can't help but take the risk to escape poverty. Abga and Asida are a good team. Their hope for a better future unites them. They even build a wooden cottage, that protects them from the hot sun. When Asida one day discovers a young man on the island, their idyll is threatened.
