We're in 1866, in the days before the referendum of 22 October that, in fact, sanction the annexation of Venice to the Kingdom of Italy. Through the story of two Venetian families, the Biasin producing and trading wine throughout Europe, and Querini, decadent aristocrats, the film portrays the period between the fall of Venice and its annexation to Italy.
