GROZNY BLUES

by Nicola Bellucci

synopsis

The story of four women friends who fight for human rights in Chechnya under the most difficult conditions. The film accompanies the women in their everyday lives, telling of their fears and dreams, of love stories, of forced marriages and of the effects of the government’s repression felt on a day-to-day basis. By coupling the personal and intimate with the political, the filmmaker illustrates what it means to live as an independent and involved woman in an Islamic society.
