MAGNIFICENT SKY
synopsis
Theory and practice meet the noise of reality in a portrait of Romanian avant-garde composers Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana-Maria Avram, whose driving ambition was to provoke a revolution in sound. As a home is packed up and a life's work is reflected on, film and subject offer a meditation on loneliness, time and death, the reverberations of lives, legacies and sounds. Their influential spectral music finds a mirror in a pointillistic film that builds itself as a journey into philosophies of composition and interpretation - an inquiry equally applied to the music, the characters and the film itself.
