FUNERAL CASINO BLUES

by Roderick Warich

synopsis

Jen came to Bangkok to support her family, but her front desk job doesn’t pay enough. To make ends meet, she starts dating foreigners as a temporary girlfriend. When one of those dates turns violent, the barman Wason steps in. Shaken, Jen asks him to drive her to her next appointment. He reluctantly agrees, and as they drift through the city at night, they slowly fall in love. But Wason’s gambling debts catch up with him. A fight. A failed break-in. Shots fired. Wason is forced to flee Bangkok. Jen drives him halfway to Pattaya. Then they part. Weeks later, Jen’s roommate Pim contacts Wason out of the blue: Jen is missing, and no one has heard from her. Together, Wason and Pim set out to search for her in her rural hometown near the Cambodian border. But maybe Jen never left Bangkok at all...
