In October 1930, a group of senior officers in the Finnish army decided to kidnap Finland's first president, Ståhlberg, who had already retired, at the end of a night of drinking. The kidnapping went wrong at the very beginning, when the incompetent couriers recruited for the job had to take the stubborn president's wife, Ester Ståhlberg, along for the ride.
