LAVOREREMO DA GRANDI

by Antonio Albanese

synopsis

Three friends, Beppe, Umberto and Gigi, are waiting for young Toni to arrive to celebrate his newfound freedom. Umberto is a failed musician, he’s run his father’s company into the ground and already has two divorces behind him. Gigi has just been disinherited by his aunt, he’s drunk and is wearing one of his old wigs in protest. Beppe has an overbearing mother, works as a plumber and is said never to have had a girlfriend. Toni, Umberto’s son, is a boy who’s a bit too sharp for his own good, in and out of jail for petty crimes. In other words: the most ragtag of crews, in an unchanging microcosm, in the jarring splendour of a lake. Something, however, is about to happen. A cataclysm with shocking and hilarious consequences. After a boozy night at the village bar, the car they’re about to drive home in hits something. Or rather, someone. Setting off a string of inexorable bad decisions, the four flee and take refuge at Umberto’s place. It will be a long night of twists and turns, absurd and ridiculous situations, encounters and clashes between the protagonists and other improbable figures who populate that never-ending day. Until the most unimaginable of solutions arrives at the first light of dawn.
