THE GREATER GOOD

by Rocco Papaleo

synopsis

A tour guide and a “failed” actress accompany four female inmates across the Pollino massif, in search of the centuries-old Pino Loricato, a symbol of resilience. The trek soon turns into a transformative journey, made up of encounters and changes, punctuated by music that takes shape step by step, until it becomes a collective voice capable of bringing together different bodies, emotions and stories. Amid a harsh and beautiful natural landscape, shot through with unexpected solidarity, fragments of complex lives surface, wounds still open, and a profound need to be seen and heard. Speaking, singing, and naming what one has lived through becomes a way to ease tensions and rediscover a sense of belonging, at least until a sudden event throws everything back into question. Because sometimes, telling one’s story is already a first step towards something greater.
