A PINT OF INK

by Ester Geislerová

synopsis

A distinctive documentary portrait by Ester Geislerová, this intimate film journey follows a daughter as she explores the inner world of her late father, renowned Czech Japanologist and calligrapher Petr Geisler. Drawing on family archives, personal letters, friends’ recollections, and the striking contrast between the grey reality of Communist Czechoslovakia and the vibrant Tokyo of the 1980s, the film gradually reveals a layered portrait of a fragile yet extraordinary artist. A story of human failures and achievements, longing for freedom, and the attempt to preserve the fleeting trace of a man of remarkable charm and Renaissance-like talent, the film captures a figure who remained, in many ways, an enigma even to his own family.
