by Claudio Risi

synopsis

Valentina Colombo, winner of a scholarship for a year of postgraduate work at the University Miami, travels to the US with her father Cristoforo, who works as a taxi driver in Rome. On returning home, Cristoforo finds that his wife Rosy has taken in his brother-in-law Oscar, under house arrest for armed robbery, plus Oscar's girlfriend Lory. Back in Miami, Valentina falls in love with Bob, an Italian-American fellow student. When she meets Bob's father, rich stock broker Al Di Giacomo, and Bob's mother Patricia, a snob obsessed with shopping. Valentina worries about the drastic socio-economic differences between the two families. But Bob quickly reassures her by asking her to marry him.
