She was born in Singapore and grew up on the east coast of Scotland. She studied Sculpture, and Film and Television; her second short film, made in 1998 for Channel 4, went on to win a BAFTA and 15 more awards.
She directed commercials for Saatchi and Saatchi, as well as several more shorts. Donkeys is her debut feature.
