Ilian Metev

Ilian Metev was born in Sofia in 1981. He spent his adolescence in Germany, where he studied violin. Later on he moved to the United Kingdom –first to Saint Martins, where he had the opportunity to experiment with 16mm., and then at the National Film and Television School– and obtained his cinematic training. Since then he tries to put into practice his knowledge and eagerness to experiment. He filmed Goleshovo in 2008, a medium-length documentary, and 2012 has seen him releasing his first feature film, Sofia’s last Ambulance, presented in Cannes and Karlovy Vary, where he was awarded the prize for the Best Documentary Film over 30 minutes long.
