Woody Allen

Born in 1935, New York, wrote plays and stories before beginning in film. In the 1970s he made his name as an original writer-director of comedies in which he generally starred.
The tragicomedy Annie Hall (1977) showed the more serious side of Allen’s talent, which in the late 1970s and early 1980s began to dominate the parody mosaics he’d made up till then.
The problems inherent in emotional relationships and the various neuroses of modern times still remain the central themes of Allen’s work. (Karlovy Vary Film Festival)
