Director and screenwriter, his works as a director include Blame It on the Bellboy (1992), Brassed Off (1996), BAFTA nominee and winner of the César for Best Foreign Film, Little Voice (1998), also nominated for the British film awards, Purely Belter (2000) and Hope Springs.
