Helmut Dietl

Was born in 1944 in Bad Wiessee and studied Theater and Art History. He then started working in television as a floor manager before going to Munich's Kammerspiele Theater to become an assistant director.

His first work as a director for television was the series Münchner Geschichten in 1973. He followed this by serving as a producer for an independent production company and directed such legendary TV series as Der ganz normale Wahnsinn (1978), Monaco Franze (1983), and Kir Royal (1986).

His award-winning films include: Der Durchdreher (1979), Schtonk! (1992), Rossini oder Die moerderische Frage, wer mit wem schlief (1996), Late Show (1999), and About the Looking for and the Finding of Love.
