GoCritic! is a training programme for emerging film journalists and critics. It is organized by Cineuropa together with various European film festivals and it is the first pan-European training programme of its kind, conducted in English. Through workshops led by acclaimed film journalists and critics at seven festivals in the first year, and online tutoring after the festivals, GoCritic! will train around 50 European film journalists and critics. The main objective is to improve their skills of writing about cinema through practical work in producing such content. The extended online tutoring will ensure continuity in the participants' work. Their articles will be published on Cineuropa’s main page.
GoCritic! will empower aspiring journalists and critics beyond writing skills, providing them with a deep insight into the film industry and thus contributing to European cinema in general. Tutors will guide the participants through the festival experience, and organize guest lectures by experts from the industry, ensuring that the participants get the big picture. GoCritic! will also help them in their professional orientation, in collaboration with other training programmes. The visibility of the participants' work will be high thanks to publishing on Cineuropa, and their profiles and examples of work will be suggested to other companies that might need their expertise. The best of the participants will get the chance to publish stories professionally as part of Cineuropa's regular coverage, for which they will get paid.
GoCritic! will create a new journalistic community which will freshen up the existing circles with new ideas, through perspective of younger generations, and move the dialogue on developments in film industry on to a new level.
The GoCritic! team and tutors includes Boyd van Hoeij, Neil Young, Dana Linssen, Carmen Gray, Michael Pattison, Tristan Priimagi, Vladan Petkovic, who is also the Head of Studies of the programme, and Marina Buric, project coordinator.
