Why do you produce documentaries? Do you understand documentary film as an instrument of social and political change?
Lorenzo Cioffi: Making documentaries is a method of experiencing the world. And this is perhaps the first step towards social and political change.
What qualities should a documentary producer have these days?
I believe that the first quality of a documentary producer is the ability to understand the heart of a project and to do so while respecting the role of the author. In a way then, the ability to be aligned with the project. And then patience, a lot of patience.
What do you think is the future of distribution of documentary films?
Can I say "theatres"?
What projects do you have under way (including in the area of fiction film and other projects)?
There Was and There Wasn’t is a project to which I am very attached because of the cinematographic vision of the director Andrea Capranico and because of the strong emotional component that this story brings with it, a story of guilt and redemption, of a son in search of his father, from Canada to Lebanon.
But I’m working on a lot of projects that I’m strongly attached to, including the invention of a board game (something that I’m enjoying a lot).
