Shooting Star 2007 – Hungary

by

Twenty five-year old Péter Nagy has made a sensational start in Hungarian cinema with his first big role in Gàbor Herendi’s Lora – A Story about Love (see news). The film, which opens on January 25, 2007 in Hungarian cinemas and will be presented to the international press during Hungarian Film Week (January 30-February 6, 2007), will allow audiences to discover an actor who previously held some minor roles in films, in particular Gábor Dettre’s Cloud Over the Ganges and József Pacskovszky’s Oliver VII.

Tell us about your career before Lora – A Story about Love.
I didn’t necessarily start out in acting. I liked poetry, music and I tried to imagine what lifestyle I found stimulating, and I thought that becoming an actor would be a good solution. I then joined the Margit Földessy dramatic art school, which helped me a lot. Then I tried to join the Hungarian Academy of Drama and Film, which is the only place in Hungary where it is possible to learn how to act, but I was accepted only on my third attempt in 2002. While waiting, I worked in theatre and television. In 2006, I finished my course at the Academy, so I starred in a film and signed a contract with the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen where I currently act because "it is good to be free and express the truth…".

How would you define your character in Lora – A Story about Love ?
I tried to create quite a normal personality. But he has had some problems and his life has fallen apart. The question is will he accept living that way or can he succeed in dealing with the painful experiences. I tried to integrate my personal problems in the story to make the role my own and my work more stimulating.

What do you think of your nomination as Shooting Star?
I don’t know what to think. It’s a great honour and also a wonderful opportunity, but I don’t know if I deserve it or not, as everything has happened so quickly. In any case, it’s a very pleasant feeling, and it’s reassuring to have the chance to go to Berlin which, in my opinion, is the perfect meeting place.
